The 2020’s have been challenging for us all. Profound change, a pandemic, technological advancements, domestic and global economic challenges, and events, to name only a few – yet we press on and continue to make improvements in safety and health across our industry.

Through these challenges, the Pulp and Paper Safety Association (PPSA) continues to press forward. I am humbled how truly remarkable the organization and people are within our industry, as well as how much we have accomplished over the decades.

Welcome and thank you for visiting the PPSA website. We trust you find it and all that PPSA has to offer is useful, informative, challenging, and helpful in your roles. Most of all we hope you will get involved and become part of the PPSA mission of “Bringing the Industry Home Safe”!

Our Association has a long history dating back to the 1940’s. While we have gone by different names, such as the Southern Pulp & Paper Safety Association, our goals and mission haven’t changed. Today the Association continues to grow. We are still a non-commercial, non-profit, and non-political organization. The Board of Directors consists of volunteers from some of our member companies who dedicate considerable amounts of time ensuring the legacy of our industry’s people, the Association itself and its values. TAPPI, a technical association of the pulp and paper industry, provides PPSA with exceptional management services and administrative resources.

PPSA exists for the purpose of assisting and educating in the prevention of incidents among the paper, packaging, converting and forest products related industries – both away and at the job. The collective exchange of information, strategies, initiatives, better practices, and prevention activities allows for preventive measures to be taken by others, and to benefit from the experiences of others. The Association is designed to provide professional growth to those involved and to provide networking opportunities between safety professionals and leaders across the industry.

There are many ways to get involved in PPSA and we hope you will consider it. The Association has many of Committees that provide services, guidance, and leadership to the Association as well as the entire membership. The Association also has vendor companies as members. All the vendors bring a wealth of expertise and support to PPSA and member locations. Although PPSA does not endorse any specific vendor, we provide members with options and introductions for your safety supplies, equipment, technology applications, and services. Finally, much of our work culminates with our annual Safety and Health Conference and Vendor Exposition. These conferences bring together industry company representatives and hundreds of members, vendors, and safety professionals to network and learn together in a unique industry setting. 2024 will represent PPSA’s 80th annual conference – which attests to the Associations commitment and longevity.

Our journey continues and the PPSA remains to be the industry’s lead Association, embracing new technology, delivering outstanding creativity for our members, and offering a forum for networking, learning, and solving industry safety challenges. Please browse the website’s resources, get involved in the Associations’ many committees and sign-up for our annual conference. If you are not already a member, I encourage you to click on Join PPSA on the left tab to see the benefits and the application form. Thank you for visiting our industries premier Association and website. We welcome your feedback, questions, and suggestions. If you need assistance locating specific information, please contact PPSA Staff via email or at 770-209-7300.

Final Thought! The PPSA would not have been possible without the creativity, talent, and passion of our people. I am honored to work with such outstanding and committed people. With your help and the efforts of our people, we enter 2024 with positive momentum, and I am grateful to have you with us through it all.
